EIGHT Months After Uromi Killings, Families of Slain Kano Hunters Still Await Justice, Compensation
Eight months after the tragic killing of 16 hunters from Kano State in Uromi, Edo State, families of the victims are still waiting for justice and compensation, despite promises made by the Kano and Edo State governments.

The hunters, who hailed from Bunkure, Garko, Dawakin Kudu, Kibiya, and Rano local government areas of Kano State, were killed in March 2025. In April 2025, Governors Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State and Monday Okpebholo of Edo State visited the bereaved families and pledged financial support and justice.

However, speaking to Global Tracker, Chairman of the Committee of Families of the Slain Hunters, Malam Haruna Iliyasu Kibiya, lamented that no compensation has been received to date.
“Not a single kobo has been paid to any family. Many of the widows and children are now living in extreme hardship. The children have dropped out of school, and many households are struggling to survive,” Kibiya said.
He called on both state governments to honour their promises without further delay.
