NUJ Kano Online Media Chapel Organises Election Reporting and Journalists’ Safety Workshop

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano Online Media Chapel, has launched a capacity-building workshop aimed at strengthening the skills of online journalists in election reporting, political campaign coverage, and journalists’ safety ahead of future electoral activities.

The workshop, currently holding at the NUJ Secretariat, Farm Centre, Kano, is being organised in partnership with the Aminu Magashi Garba Foundation as part of efforts to promote responsible, ethical, and professional journalism.

The training is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to deliver accurate, balanced, and credible coverage of political campaigns and elections while upholding the highest standards of journalistic ethics.

A key component of the workshop focuses on journalists’ safety, providing participants with practical guidance on risk assessment, personal security, and safety protocols during political events and election coverage. The initiative seeks to ensure that media practitioners can perform their professional responsibilities effectively while safeguarding their well-being.

Throughout the programme, participants will receive expert insights from seasoned media professionals and industry specialists, who will share best practices on election reporting, ethical decision-making, fact-checking, conflict-sensitive journalism, and strategies for staying safe before, during, and after the electoral process.
