The Kano State Government has approved the promotion of 18,984 teaching and non-teaching staff under the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), covering the January and July 2026 promotion exercises.
The state government has also approved the release of N235,116,339.09 to facilitate the implementation of the promotions across the 44 Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs) in the state.
The approval followed a request by the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Yusuf Kabir, for the release of funds to enable the Board to implement the promotions for eligible staff whose promotion processes, including assessment and salary computation, had been completed.
SUBEB said the timely implementation of staff promotions would boost workers’ morale, enhance their professional development and contribute to improved performance in the basic education sector.
The Board disclosed that it has approximately 60,000 teaching and non-teaching personnel serving across the 44 local government areas of Kano State.
According to the Board, the present administration inherited a significant backlog of unpaid promotions, including outstanding promotions covering a period of seven years, as well as another backlog spanning about 18 months.
SUBEB said Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had already approved the implementation of the outstanding promotions, describing the decision as a major step towards improving workers’ welfare and restoring confidence among education personnel.
The release of the N235.1 million for the 2026 promotion exercise was subsequently endorsed by the Kano State Executive Council, paving the way for the commencement of the promotion implementation.
The development is expected to further strengthen staff motivation and support the state government’s ongoing efforts to improve the quality of basic education across Kano State.
