KANO STATE — One Kano Agenda, in collaboration with Starbench and Infotech Companies, has organised a two-day capacity-building training on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cybercrime to equip youths and women in Kano State with essential digital skills and knowledge of online safety.

The training, held on Saturday and Sunday, was designed to enhance participants’ understanding of emerging technologies, promote responsible digital practices, and expose them to economic opportunities in the rapidly evolving digital economy.

Abdullah Yakasai, Deputy Director-General (Organisation) of One Kano Agenda, who represented the organisation’s Director-General, Abbas Yakasai, at the programme, said the initiative was part of the organisation’s commitment to empowering young people and women through digital education and skills development.

He explained that as artificial intelligence and information technology continue to transform various sectors, acquiring relevant digital skills has become increasingly important for young people seeking to remain competitive in the modern world.

According to him, the programme was designed to raise awareness about emerging technological opportunities, responsible technology use, and measures for protecting individuals against cybercrime.

Cybersecurity Awareness Takes Centre Stage

The training was held under the theme, “Think Before You Click,” which highlights the importance of caution and responsible behaviour when using the internet.

Participants were encouraged to verify information before sharing it, safeguard their personal and financial details, and remain vigilant against online fraud, scams, cyberbullying, and other forms of digital exploitation.

The programme also emphasised the need for internet users to develop responsible online habits and understand the potential risks associated with the misuse of digital platforms.

Promoting Digital Entrepreneurship and Self-Reliance

Beyond cybersecurity awareness, the initiative introduced participants to potential economic opportunities within the digital space, including digital entrepreneurship, freelancing, technology-driven businesses, and online services.

Yakasai noted that developing these skills could help young people explore legitimate sources of income, promote self-reliance, and reduce exclusive dependence on government employment.

He reaffirmed One Kano Agenda’s commitment to collaborating with technology companies, private-sector organisations, entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders to expand access to digital knowledge and practical skills.

He added that the organisation’s vision was to ensure that youths and women in Kano State become active contributors to technological innovation, economic growth, and sustainable development rather than merely consumers of digital products and services.

One Kano Agenda Appreciates Kano State Government

The organisation expressed appreciation to the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, through the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Hon. Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, for his support and encouragement towards the activities and development of One Kano Agenda.

It also commended Starbench and Infotech Companies, the facilitators, participants, and other stakeholders whose contributions helped make the training possible.

The organisation reiterated the importance of sustained partnerships between public institutions, private-sector organisations, and community-based initiatives in preparing young people for the opportunities and challenges of the digital age.

The programme concluded with a renewed call for greater investment in digital literacy, cybersecurity awareness, innovation, and skills acquisition as essential components of youth empowerment and socioeconomic development in Kano State and Nigeria at large.
