Kano Government Appoints 8,588 Education Personnel to Strengthen Basic Education, Boost Teacher Workforce
Kano, Nigeria – In a major step toward revitalising the education sector, the Kano State Government has approved the appointment of 8,588 education personnel to strengthen basic education and address the shortage of teachers across public schools in the state.
The appointments include 4,900 newly recruited permanent and pensionable teachers and the engagement of 3,688 Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) Cohort V facilitators. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf officially presented appointment letters to the beneficiaries during a ceremony held at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.
The recruitment exercise forms part of the state government’s broader education reform agenda aimed at improving the quality of teaching and learning, reducing the teacher-pupil ratio, and expanding access to quality basic education across Kano State.
Addressing the newly appointed personnel, Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to making education a top priority, describing it as the cornerstone of sustainable development and long-term socio-economic progress.
He urged the beneficiaries to discharge their responsibilities with dedication, professionalism, and integrity, stressing that their contributions would play a critical role in shaping the future of the state’s children and advancing educational excellence.
The Governor further noted that the recruitment complements other ongoing interventions by his administration, including significant investments in school infrastructure, teachers’ welfare, instructional materials, and other initiatives designed to reposition the education sector for greater efficiency and improved learning outcomes.
Education stakeholders at the event described the recruitment as one of the largest teacher employment exercises undertaken by the Kano State Government in recent years. They expressed confidence that the additional workforce would significantly enhance classroom instruction, improve academic performance, and strengthen the overall basic education system.
Speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the event, the Provost of Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Dr. Hassan Ibrahim, commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for what he described as his visionary leadership and commitment to revitalising the education sector.
Dr. Hassan Ibrahim praised the administration’s sustained investment in education, noting that the large-scale recruitment demonstrates the government’s determination to build a stronger and more effective public education system.
He also called on the newly recruited teachers and BESDA facilitators to justify the confidence reposed in them by serving with zeal, dedication, and a strong sense of responsibility, urging them to contribute meaningfully to the development of education in Kano State.
The ceremony attracted a wide range of education stakeholders, including senior government officials, education administrators, traditional leaders, development partners, and heads of all state-owned tertiary institutions, reflecting the broad support for the state’s ongoing educational transformation.
