KANO COURT SENTENCES TWO MEN TO DEATH BY HANGING OVER KILLING OF WOMAN AND SIX CHILDREN

The Kano State High Court No. 11, sitting in Bompai, has sentenced two men, Umar Auwal and Yakubu Dayyabu, to death by hanging for the murder of a woman, Fatima Abubakar, and her six children in the Dorayi Ciranci area of Kano State.

The judgment was delivered on Friday, November 6, 2026, by Justice Nasiru Saminu, following the court’s consideration of the evidence and testimonies presented during the trial.

The court found Umar Auwal, popularly known as Breaker, and Yakubu Dayyabu, also known as Wawo, guilty of murdering Fatima Abubakar and her six children on January 17, 2026.

Consequently, the court sentenced each of the defendants to seven separate death sentences by hanging, corresponding to the seven victims murdered in the incident.

The court also sentenced both defendants to life imprisonment for the offences of criminal conspiracy and armed robbery.

However, the court discharged and acquitted another defendant, Isiyaku Yakubu, of the allegation of conspiracy in connection with the murder of the seven victims.

The prosecution team was led by the Kano State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Abdulkarim Kabir Maude, alongside Barrister Salisu Muhammad Tahir.

Meanwhile, the defendants were represented by Barrister J. I. Musa and Barrister A. I. Baba.

The judgment marks a significant development in the widely followed Dorayi Ciranci murder case, which involved the tragic killing of a mother and her six children.
