The Kano Momentum: Why Progress Must Continue

By Comrade Najeeb Nasir Ibrahim

My fellow citizens of Kano,

Today, Kano State stands at a decisive moment in its history. The progress we are witnessing across infrastructure, social development, and governance reflects not only effective leadership but a broader vision for Kano — a vision that places the state and its people above any individual. This is the essence of the Kano First agenda and the guiding principle behind the ongoing Society Reorientation Programme, ensuring that collective growth and civic responsibility take precedence over personal or political interests.

Society Reorientation and the Kano First Agenda

The Society Reorientation Programme has been pivotal in shaping a citizenry that is aware, engaged, and committed to the state’s prosperity. Through education on civic responsibility, ethics, and social cohesion, Kano citizens are learning that sustainable development depends on unity and active participation — not the whims of individuals.

At the same time, the Kano First agenda ensures that all development policies, decisions, and programmes prioritize the welfare of the people above personal or political gains. By aligning state initiatives with federal investments, the administration has created a framework where progress is institutional, not individual-driven.

Federal–State Collaboration in Action

Partnership with the Federal Government of Nigeria has amplified Kano’s development impact. For example:

The Kaduna–Kano and Kano–Maradi rail lines are connecting Kano to regional and national markets, boosting commerce and trade.

The Save the Corridor Program is restoring urban spaces and improving city infrastructure, demonstrating how orderly planning can benefit everyone.

Social programmes, including healthcare expansions and housing initiatives, are directly improving citizens’ lives, showing that development is both practical and people-centered.

Together, these initiatives reflect a governance model that values Kano’s long-term welfare over any individual’s interests.

Appreciating Tangible Progress

The people of Kano are already witnessing the results:

Improved roads and transport connectivity enhance trade, business, and daily life.

Civic engagement through the Society Reorientation Programme ensures responsible citizenship.

Urban renewal and social welfare programmes demonstrate that development is about improving the quality of life for all, not just a few.

These outcomes prove that when leadership places Kano first, development is real, visible, and sustainable.

Why Continuity Matters

Momentum, once built, must be protected. Projects underway must be completed, social programmes sustained, and civic reorientation continued. This ensures that:

Infrastructure projects are delivered on time

Civic responsibility becomes embedded in society

Economic opportunities expand for everyone

Kano continues to lead in trade, industry, and innovation

Sustaining the Kano momentum guarantees that our state remains a model for collective progress, not individual gain.

The Kano momentum is not about any single leader — it is about a society committed to the Kano First agenda, where federal collaboration, state policy, and citizen engagement converge to produce lasting progress.

For Kano, the path forward is clear: continue the progress, deepen federal partnerships, strengthen societal values, and always put the state above any individual.

The choice is ours — to protect what we have built, accelerate development, and secure a prosperous, united future for all Kano citizens.

May Kano continue to move forward in peace, unity, and collective prosperity.
