KANO POLICE CONVENE STAKEHOLDERS’ MEETING TO RESTORE CALM FOLLOWING PROTEST IN UNGOGO LGA

The Kano State Police Command has successfully intervened to de-escalate tension and restore calm in Jajira Village, Ungogo Local Government Area, following reports of a protest by some groups that threatened public peace and order.

On 8th May, 2026, upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, *CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, sfipma, mnim, mnips, masis*, immediately dispatched a team of Police Operatives led by the *Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, DCP Lawal Isah Mani*, to the scene. The team engaged the converged groups, calmed the situation, and scheduled a stakeholders’ meeting to address the concerns through dialogue.

In line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, *IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM*, on proactive conflict resolution and community engagement, a follow-up meeting was held today, *9th May, 2026*, at the Kano State Police Command’s Conference Hall, Bompai.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders to foster understanding and reach amicable resolutions. Present were:

i. *Hon. Auwal Idris Isah*, Vice Chairman, Ungogo LGA

ii. *Alhaji Nura Shehu Ahmad*, District Head of Ungogo

iii. *Mallam Ibrahim Muhammad*, Village Head of Jajira

iv. Representative of the Federal Ministry of Transport

v. Representative of the Construction Company handling the project

vi. Other stakeholders from Jajira Village and Ungogo LGA

RESOLUTIONS AND OUTCOME

During the discussions, parties presented their concerns and were given a platform for open and constructive dialogue. Resolutions reached include the need for continuous communication between all parties to address grievances promptly and ensure smooth coexistence.

The Commissioner of Police advised all parties to maintain peace, shun acts capable of breaching public order, and allow lawful activities to proceed without disruption. He emphasized that the Command remains committed to protecting lives and property while providing a neutral platform for conflict resolution.

CP Bakori urged residents of Jajira and Ungogo LGA to cooperate with law enforcement and avoid taking the law into their hands. He assured that the Police will continue to monitor the situation to ensure sustained peace and security.

The Kano State Police Command appreciates the cooperation of all stakeholders and reaffirms its resolve to uphold dialogue, fairness, and professionalism in policing the state.
