Kano Govt Imposes Strict Durbar Guidelines Over Security Concerns

The Kano State Government has announced a set of stringent measures to guide the forthcoming Eid-el-Fitr (Sallah) Durbar celebrations citing credible intelligence reports of possible attempts to disrupt peace and public order.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, said the decision followed security briefings from the State Security Council indicating that some individuals were planning to create confusion during the festive period.

He noted that while the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf remains committed to preserving Kano rich cultural heritage it would not compromise its constitutional responsibility of maintaining peace and safeguarding lives and property.

According to the statement, the government after consultations with the Kano Emirate Council and other stakeholders approved specific guidelines for the Durbar activities.

The traditional Hawan Idi (Eid Durbar) will be conducted by the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, beginning from the Kofar Mata Eid Praying Ground and proceeding through designated routes to Gidan Shettima, before terminating at Kofar Fatalwa within the Emir’s Palace.

The Hawan Nasarawa procession will hold in a modified format but without the use of horses, while the Hawan Daushe has been suspended and deferred to subsequent Sallah celebrations.

Similarly, Hawan Fanisau and Hawan Dorayi have been put on hold in the interest of public safety.

The government directed all security agencies to heighten surveillance and enforce strict compliance with the directives, warning that necessary lawful measures would be taken against any breach of peace before, during, and after the celebrations.

Residents were urged to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative with security operatives, as well as to refrain from spreading unverified information.

The government also commended security agencies for their professionalism and reiterated its commitment to ensuring a peaceful and hitch-free Sallah celebration.

It further extended goodwill messages to Muslims across the state, wishing them a peaceful and joyous Eid-el-Fitr.
