Kano Deputy Governor Resigns, Cites Governance Constraints and Political Tensions

The Deputy Governor of Kano State has resigned from office, amid mounting political tensions in the state.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the Kwankwasiyya Movement and signed by its spokesperson, Dr. Habibu Sale Mohammed. According to the statement, the decision—though difficult—was taken in the overall interest of the people and to safeguard stability in the state’s governance.

The movement explained that recent developments had considerably hindered the deputy governor’s ability to effectively discharge his constitutional responsibilities, necessitating his resignation to allow the office function without limitations in the public interest.

However, it clarified that the resignation does not amount to an admission of the allegations levelled against him by the Kano State House of Assembly. The deputy governor, the statement noted, maintains his innocence and insists that his record in office reflects integrity, diligence, and commitment to public service.

Describing the move as an act of statesmanship, the Kwankwasiyya Movement said the resignation was aimed at promoting peace, political maturity, and preventing further tensions that could disrupt governance and development in Kano State.

Following his exit from office, the former deputy governor is expected to concentrate on political engagements within the movement, particularly in strengthening its structures and preparing for strategic alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group also urged its supporters and residents of Kano State to remain calm, law-abiding, and committed to democratic principles, assuring that further details on the development would be communicated in due course.
