Deliberate Omission or Political Marginalisation? A Direct Message to the Leadership of All Progressives Congress in Kano

By Comrade Najeeb Nasir

The deliberate omission of Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya’s name from the Congress Committee list for the second time cannot and must not be treated as a coincidence. It raises serious concerns about fairness, internal democracy, and the sincerity of unity within our great party, the All Progressives Congress in Kano State.

We cannot pretend not to see a pattern.

During the official welcoming of His Excellency, Abba Kabir Yusuf into the party, many loyal and hardworking figures were sidelined. Waiya, a serving Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, was reduced to an ordinary membership position within the Publicity Committee. Many swallowed the disappointment in the interest of party unity.

Now, again, at the level of Congress Committee composition, his name is completely omitted — while a former Commissioner of Information, Ibrahim Garba, is appointed Chairman. The question that naturally arises is: what exactly is the justification?

Are we to believe that a serving, active, and highly visible Commissioner of Information lacks the capacity to serve? Or is this about old political grudges that some individuals have refused to let go of?

Let us speak frankly.

Comrade Waiya is not just any appointee. He is widely regarded as one of the visible engines of the current administration — a key voice defending government policies, engaging the media, and articulating the achievements of His Excellency, Abba Kabir Yusuf. If performance and loyalty are now liabilities within the party, then we must question what message the leadership is sending.

Is competence now a threat?

Is effectiveness a crime?

Or is it that those who once stood on opposing political lines are still being punished despite openly aligning with the party’s current direction?

We are all now in the same political family. The time for factional sentiments and silent retaliation should be over. The people of Kano expect maturity from party leaders, not subtle exclusion tactics that weaken internal cohesion.

A party that claims to be progressive must practice internal justice. Selective inclusion breeds resentment. Political marginalisation sends the wrong signal to party faithful who work day and night defending the administration and promoting party ideals.

We say this respectfully but firmly: such actions cannot continue unchecked.

If unity is truly the goal, then fairness must be the foundation. The leadership of the APC in Kano must explain to party members and the public why a serving Commissioner of Information is repeatedly sidelined in key party structures while others are elevated.

This is not about personal loyalty to any individual. It is about principle. It is about equity. It is about protecting the integrity of our party.

We will not accept any act that appears to deliberately undermine committed members under the guise of internal arrangements. The leadership must rise above personal differences and old rivalries.

Comrade Waiya deserves his rightful place based on merit, contribution, and service — not exclusion based on sentiments.

The time to correct this imbalance is now.
