Deadly Clash Erupts in Chiranci Gabas as Rival Youth Gangs Battle, One Confirmed Killed

A violent clash between rival groups of youths, commonly referred to as ‘yan daba’, has resulted in the loss of one life in Chiranci Gabas, near Gidan Dutse, Kumbotso LGA Kano State.

The incident occurred shortly after Friday prayers at about 1:30 p.m., when a group of armed youths reportedly emerged from the Layin Service area within Chiranci Gabas and advanced toward Gidan Dutse.

According to eyewitnesses, the confrontation involved residents of the Gidan Dutse area and the invading group from the Layin Service  axis, with the clash taking place near Gidan Shanu.

Sources revealed that the violence was triggered by allegations of theft and phone snatching, which provoked residents to confront the suspected gang members who had entered their neighborhood. During the ensuing altercation, several individuals sustained injuries, while one innocent Bashir, was killed.

Security operatives, including the police, later arrived at the scene and requested custody of the deceased’s body for investigation. However, the family of the victim reportedly declined and proceeded with an immediate burial.

Eyewitnesses also confirmed that another member of the gang sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital.

Security personnel have ensured law and order in the area.
