Leadership is not only about ideas. It is about turning vision into reality that benefits the people. In Kano State today, the philosophy known as the Kano First Agenda is gradually moving from a political slogan to a practical guide for governance. At the heart of this vision is the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, whose administration has placed the welfare, dignity and progress of Kano people at the center of government policy. Helping to translate this vision into a living reality is the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Amb. Hon. Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, widely regarded as the Limamin Kano First, meaning the lead guide and overseer of the initiative.

The Kano First Initiative was conceived as a clear commitment that the development of Kano and the wellbeing of its citizens must come first in every government decision. It reflects a belief that governance must be rooted in the needs and aspirations of the people. Under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the initiative focuses strongly on education, infrastructure, healthcare, youth empowerment, and social development. However, every strong vision requires strong drivers. In Kano today, one of the most visible drivers of that vision is the Limamin Kano First, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya.

From the moment he assumed office as Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Waiya approached the responsibility with energy, intelligence and strategic focus. His mission has been clear: to build a modern communication system that connects government and citizens and ensures that governance in Kano becomes inclusive and well understood by the people. Through this effort, he has been intelligently assisting Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in rebuilding not only the structures of governance but also the spirit and confidence of Kano society.

One of the first steps taken by the Limamin Kano First was to strengthen the institutions responsible for information management in the state. He undertook strategic visits and engagements with major government media organizations including ARTV, Radio Kano, Triumph Publishing Company and the Kano State Printing Press. These engagements were aimed at revitalizing the information machinery of the state so that citizens can receive accurate and timely information about government policies and activities.

Beyond strengthening institutions, Waiya has focused on building human capacity. The Ministry of Information under his leadership organized training programs for information officers from all forty four local government areas of Kano State. This step created a stronger grassroots communication network capable of explaining government policies to citizens at community level. Through these efforts, people across Kano are now better informed about the goals and activities of the Kano First Agenda.

It is for this reason that many observers now describe Ibrahim Waiya as one of the key architects of the communication renewal shaping governance in Kano State. Through tireless work and strategic engagement, the Limamin Kano First has helped transform the Kano First Agenda into a governing philosophy that places citizens at the center of decision making.

Another important part of Waiya’s work has been his strong engagement with journalists, broadcasters and communication professionals both within and outside Kano State. Recognizing the powerful influence of the media, he has consistently built partnerships with professional bodies and media organizations to ensure responsible and development oriented journalism. His engagement with broadcasters and media presenters has helped promote professionalism, balanced reporting and constructive public dialogue.

Through meetings, consultations and policy initiatives, the Limamin Kano First has encouraged journalists and commentators to focus more on development conversations rather than divisive narratives. His approach reflects the understanding that communication plays a major role in shaping the direction of society.

One of the most important messages consistently promoted by Ibrahim Waiya is that popularizing the Kano First Agenda is not a political act. It is a civic duty. According to this philosophy, when citizens understand policies designed to benefit them and actively support them, development becomes easier and more sustainable.

Through various public engagements, civil society consultations and media interactions, Waiya has succeeded in helping many citizens understand the deeper meaning of the Kano First Agenda. The message is simple and powerful. The initiative does not belong to government alone. It belongs to the people of Kano.

For this reason, the Limamin Kano First continues to emphasize that the success of the agenda requires collective participation. Development cannot be achieved by government alone. Every citizen, community leader, journalist, youth group and professional body has a role to play in supporting policies that promote the progress of the state.

This is why the Kano First Agenda demands every hand on deck. In a dynamic political environment, progressive ideas sometimes face pressures that may attempt to distract from long term goals. However, the commitment of citizens to a shared vision ensures that development remains on track. Kano therefore must remain firm and united in sustaining the Kano First philosophy.

The impact of this initiative is becoming increasingly visible across the state. Citizens today are more informed about government activities and policies. Public awareness of development programs has increased significantly. Through media engagement and strategic communication, the Ministry of Information under the leadership of Ibrahim Waiya has played a crucial role in educating the public and strengthening confidence in governance.

At the same time, the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf continues to record progress in key areas including infrastructure development, education improvement, healthcare services, youth empowerment programs and social welfare initiatives. These achievements reflect the seriousness with which the government is pursuing the Kano First Agenda.

Observers of the Ministry of Information often describe Ibrahim Waiya as a workaholic public servant whose commitment to his responsibilities is visible in his daily engagements with journalists, community leaders, professional groups and civil society organizations. Through these tireless efforts, the Limamin Kano First continues to guide the narrative of development in Kano.

As Kano State continues to move forward, unity among citizens remains essential. Differences in political opinion are natural in any democratic society, but they should not overshadow the broader goal of building a prosperous state.

Today many citizens are inspired and thrilled by the progress associated with the Kano First Agenda. The developments being witnessed across sectors such as infrastructure, education, security, health and empowerment are clear indications that the vision of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf is producing results.

Therefore, the call to the people of Kano is simple and patriotic. Let citizens put aside unnecessary opposition talk and focus on the larger achievements that are shaping the future of the state. When a society recognizes progress and works together to sustain it, development becomes stronger and more sustainable.

In the end, the Kano First Agenda represents more than a policy direction. It represents a collective commitment to the future of Kano State. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf provided the vision, but leaders like Comrade Amb. Hon. Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the respected Limamin Kano First, have worked tirelessly to transform that vision into a living philosophy of governance.

With continued unity, responsible public dialogue and sustained dedication to development, Kano State will continue to grow stronger under the Kano First banner.
