Support for the re-election of the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Kano State Wing, Comrade Baffa Ibrahim Garko (B.I.G.), continues to gather momentum as stakeholders within the union have highlighted his leadership achievements and called for his return for a second term in office.
In a statement issued by Yakubu Rabiu Musa , the endorsement was based on what he described as the chairman’s outstanding record of service, commitment to teachers’ welfare, and dedication to strengthening the union over the past four years.
According to the statement, one of Comrade Garko’s major achievements has been fostering cordial relationships among members of the union at the state, zonal, and branch levels, creating an atmosphere of unity and cooperation across Kano State.
The statement also praised his competence and leadership capacity, noting that he has consistently demonstrated the skills and experience required to represent Kano teachers at state, national, and international forums. It cited his active participation in key events, including engagements at the Government House, Coronation Hall, Eagle Square in Abuja, and other official assignments within and outside Nigeria.
The endorsement further commended Comrade Garko’s determination in defending the interests of the NUT, describing him as a resilient leader who has remained steadfast in safeguarding the union and protecting its integrity.
On teachers’ welfare, the statement noted that his administration has maintained a strong commitment to supporting both primary and secondary school teachers through various welfare initiatives. It also highlighted his compassion toward members, particularly during periods of bereavement, illness, emergencies, and celebrations.
Another milestone attributed to his administration is the establishment of the NUT Press Team, which has enhanced communication within the union through timely dissemination of information and prompt coverage of events affecting teachers across the state.
The statement also described Comrade Garko as an accountable and transparent leader whose stewardship has earned the confidence of union members. His administration was equally credited with promoting members’ welfare during State Wing Executive Council (SWEC) meetings, Ramadan support programmes, and other union activities.
In addition, the statement applauded the leadership for maintaining high standards in the provision of quality materials and logistics during major union events, including May Day celebrations and congresses.
Based on these achievements, Yakubu Rabiu Musa declared his full endorsement of Comrade Baffa Ibrahim Garko for a second term as Chairman of the NUT Kano State Wing. He added that members from Wudil Zone have also expressed their support, urging delegates and teachers across the state to sustain the current leadership in order to consolidate the progress recorded under his administration.
