SUBEB Orders Immediate Removal of Head Teacher in Kano Over Dereliction of Duty
The Acting Executive Chairman and Permanent Commissioner I of the Kano State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Hon. Wada Ibrahim Daho, has ordered the immediate removal of the Head Teacher of Makadi Saikahu Primary School in Garko Local Government Area over negligence of duty.
The directive was issued during an official inspection tour of schools across Garko Local Government Education Authority (LGEA), led by the Acting Chairman alongside members of the Board’s management team and senior officials.
During the visit, it was discovered that the Head Teacher was absent from his duty post and was reportedly prioritizing his traditional responsibilities as the District Head of Dososo Village over his official role as a school administrator. The development prompted swift action from the Board.
“Immediate action must be taken, as the Board will not condone negligence of duty,” Hon. Daho stated.
He explained that the inspection exercise was aimed at evaluating teacher and student attendance, assessing teachers’ preparedness for classroom instruction, and examining the availability of essential school records and infrastructure within the LGEA.
As part of the exercise, directors and senior officers of the Board were deployed to various schools to monitor teaching and learning activities.
The Acting Chairman also visited Kafin Malamai Central Primary School (CPS) and Government Junior Secondary School (GJSS) Co-Exist in Kafin Malamai, where he observed classroom activities and commended students for their enthusiasm and commitment to learning.
While assessing overall performance, Hon. Daho noted that although students demonstrated strong zeal for education, some teachers and school administrators were failing to meet expectations.
“The learners have shown passion and eagerness to learn, but some school administrators and teachers are not demonstrating the same level of commitment. Such attitudes can undermine effective learning,” he said.
He emphasized that the Board initiated the inspection to obtain firsthand insights into school operations rather than relying solely on reports.
Hon. Daho further urged teachers to uphold professionalism, remain committed to their duties, and act with integrity and a sense of accountability.
Reaffirming the Board’s commitment to improving educational standards, he stated that SUBEB would continue regular monitoring, supervision, and support for teachers and school leadership across the state.
Following the inspection, the Acting Chairman held a feedback session with the Garko LGEA management, expressing concern over the persistent issue of lateness among school leaders and teachers.
He also pointed out lapses in leadership and observed that School Support Officers (SSOs) were not effectively discharging their responsibilities, given the challenges identified during the exercise.
The Chairman stressed the need for improved punctuality, accountability, and dedication among all stakeholders in the education sector.
In his remarks, the State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Baffa Ibrahim Garko, called for greater collaboration by urging the Board to involve stakeholders such as the NUT, School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs), and Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) in future inspection exercises.
Also speaking, the Education Secretary of Garko LGEA, represented by the Head of Personnel, Malam Abdullahi Umar Maidoki, expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as unprecedented. He noted that the exercise would strengthen accountability and improve service delivery in the education sector.
He further assured that the LGEA would fully implement the recommendations arising from the inspection to enhance teaching and learning outcomes across the area.
