SOKOTO GOVERNOR’S WIFE DONATES ₦6 MILLION, RELIEF ITEMS TO BANDITRY-AFFECTED COMMUNITIES IN TANGAZA, BINJI

As part of her continued tour of local government areas affected by banditry, the Wife of the Sokoto State Governor, Her Excellency, Dr. Fatima Ahmed Aliyu, has visited Tangaza and Binji Local Government Areas to commiserate with victims of insecurity, share in their grief and challenges, and provide humanitarian assistance to families affected by the attacks.

The First Lady’s visit was aimed at offering comfort and reassurance to affected families, strengthening the bond between the government and the people and assuring communities that they remain a valued part of the state despite the difficulties caused by insecurity.

Speaking during the visits, Haj. Fatima acknowledged the hardship being experienced by families who have lost loved ones, been displaced from their homes or had their livelihoods disrupted as a result of banditry. She urged residents to remain hopeful, patient and prayerful while continuing to support one another during the difficult period.

She particularly appealed to parents and community leaders to ensure that insecurity does not deprive children and young people of the opportunity to receive proper education and moral upbringing.

“Despite the challenges caused by insecurity, I urge parents to continue to prioritise the proper upbringing, education and moral development of their children. We must not allow the difficulties we are facing today to destroy the future of our children.”

According to her, proper guidance, education and strong moral values would help children and youths make responsible decisions, resist negative influences and contribute positively to their communities and society.

Dr. Fatima also urged residents to continue praying for an end to banditry and other forms of insecurity, stressing that while government and security agencies were working to restore peace, the people should remain united and supportive of one another.

She assured the affected families that the Sokoto State Government remained concerned about their welfare and would continue to explore ways of providing support and alleviating the hardship confronting vulnerable communities.

“I am here to stand with you, sympathise with you and assure you that you are not alone. We will continue to support affected families within our capacity, while praying for an end to insecurity and the restoration of lasting peace in our communities.”

Representatives of the wives of the Tangaza and Binji Local Government Area Chairmen, Haj. Shafaatu Aliyu and Haj. Amina Umar, respectively, expressed appreciation to the First Lady for identifying with the affected communities at a difficult time and for extending humanitarian assistance to the victims. They prayed for divine protection and the restoration of lasting peace in the affected areas.

The Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Hajiya Hadiza Ahmed Shagari, commended the initiative and emphasised the importance of education and enlightenment among young people. She urged parents and community leaders to take greater responsibility for raising children with sound moral values and ensuring that they have access to education despite the challenges confronting their communities.

The APC Woman Leader, Hajiya Rabi Tudun Wada, and other speakers also prayed for the safety of residents and an end to insecurity in Sokoto State and Nigeria.

As part of the humanitarian intervention, beneficiaries in each of the two local government areas received 250 bags of rice, 200 pieces of atamfa, 50 cartons of spaghetti and ₦3 million in cash. In total, ₦6 million was distributed to beneficiaries across Tangaza and Binji, alongside the food items and clothing materials provided to affected families.

In all the local government areas visited, the Wife of the Governor and her entourage were received by respected Local Government Chairmen, APC leaders, women leaders, politicians and representatives of various women groups, who expressed appreciation for the visits and the continued concern shown by the government towards communities affected by insecurity.

The visits and humanitarian intervention reflect the commitment of the Sokoto State Government to standing with vulnerable families, offering relief to communities affected by insecurity and ensuring that no affected community is left without hope and support.
