ASUSS Kano Chairman Accused of Misconduct, Calls Grow for Disciplinary Action Over Alleged Abuse of Principals

The Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) in Kano State, has come under heavy criticism following allegations of misconduct and abuse against a school principal during an official workshop.

The incident reportedly occurred during a three-day special training workshop organized for secondary school principals from Kano State, held in Kaduna between March 26 and 28, 2026.

Several principals, including the Principal of GGASS Garun Babba, Malam Abubakar Ahmed—the alleged victim—condemned what they described as humiliating and unprofessional behavior by Yalo during the event. According to the principals, the altercation began over seating arrangements inside the workshop hall, despite there being no officially designated seats for participants.

Speaking to journalists, Abubakar Ahmed recounted that on March 27, the second day of the workshop, he was seated with colleagues when he, accompanied by some individuals, approached them and ordered them to vacate their seats, claiming they were reserved from the first day. When he refused, chairman allegedly pushed him off his chair, verbally abused him, and, with the support of his associates, attempted to physically assault him before others intervened.

Ahmed further stated that he did not previously know him and is not even a member of the ASUSS union.

Eyewitnesses also alleged that such behavior is not new, claiming that chairman has a history of disrespecting education officials and misusing his position as ASUSS chairman. They cited past incidents, including allegedly removing principals from leadership positions within the union after attending a national ANCOPSS meeting, and an attempted confrontation with a director during a promotional interview exercise at the Kano State Secondary Schools Management Board (KSSSSMB).

Despite these allegations, critics say no disciplinary action has been taken against him by the relevant education authorities or the KSSSSMB.

After listening to the explanation from chairman, he stated that he did not engage in any altercation with Principal Abubakar Ahmed. However, he acknowledged that he moved him aside from the seat he was occupying and then placed another chair for himself and sat there. Yalo also said that Abubakar Ahmed apologized to him in his capacity as the ASUSS Chairman and then relocated to another place where he sat.

Stakeholders are now calling on the Kano State Government and relevant education authorities to urgently investigate the matter and take appropriate action, emphasizing that individuals exhibiting such conduct are unfit for leadership positions.
