The Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State has carried out a large-scale livestock vaccination campaign, delivering free veterinary services to herders across key communities.
The outreach, conducted in Baso Dantsinke settlement, Idris Abubakar settlement, and the Muhammad Loga area in Unguwa Uku ‘Yan Awaki, targeted major cattle diseases such as Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia (CBPP), alongside treatment for cough, flu, and other common livestock ailments.
The Head of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Department in Tarauni LGA, Ado B. Dahiru, disclosed that a total of 7,213 cattle were vaccinated during the exercise. He described the initiative as a major boost to livestock health and productivity in the area.
According to Dahiru, the campaign was part of ongoing efforts by the Executive Chairman of Tarauni LGA, Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Muhammad Sekure, in collaboration with the Kano State Government under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. He noted that the intervention is aimed at curbing the spread of infectious diseases, reducing economic losses among herders, and strengthening the livestock value chain.
The veterinary team leader, Dr. Hanga, underscored the importance of routine vaccination, warning that diseases such as flu can spread rapidly, particularly during certain seasons. He added that the team also sensitized herders on best practices in animal health management to ensure sustained benefits.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment, the Executive Chairman, Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Muhammad Sekure, stated that people-focused initiatives—especially in agriculture and livestock—remain a top priority. He emphasized that improving animal health is key to enhancing food security and economic stability in the local government.
He further commended the Kano State Government for its continued support in driving developmental initiatives across the state.
Beneficiaries of the programme expressed appreciation to the local authorities for bringing free veterinary services closer to their communities, describing the intervention as timely and impactful.
