SPECIAL TEACHING TRAINING COMPLETED FOR NEWLY RECRUITED TEACHERS FROM GWALE, KUMBOTSO, AND MADOBI LOCAL GOVERNMENTS

On Tuesday, January 6, 2026, the Kano State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), in collaboration with the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and the PLANE organization, concluded a special training program for newly recruited teachers from Gwale, Kumbotso, and Madobi local government areas.
According to reports gathered, our team spoke with the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Alhaji Yusuf Kabir, during a tour of one of the training centers held at Dukawuya Girls Science Project School in Gwale LGA.
Here’s what the Chairman said:
Alhaji Yusuf Kabir warned the teachers to put into practice all they learned during the training and to bet committed and sincere in their duties. He emphasized that any teacher engaged in multiple jobs must ensure that teaching remains their top priority, even if they run other businesses. He said while he would not stop anyone from engaging in other means of income given the harsh economic realities any income earned at the expense of teaching responsibilities would bring no blessings, as such work goes against government service rules.
He added that teachers must support their pupils, avoid beating or intimidating them, stressing that any teacher who instills fear in children behaves like a terrorist and lacks professionalism. He advised teachers to draw pupils close, guide them with love, and mentor them through dialogue and advice.
Alhaji Kabir also revealed that over 16,000 people applied for the teaching jobs, but only 4,315 were recruited, urging the new teachers to be thankful for the opportunity. He further stated that future recruitments will require candidates to pass a Computer-Based Test (CBT) before being considered for employment, as digital processes are now the standard.
Lastly, he warned that no teacher without an education qualification will receive a confirmation letter. He urged those without a teaching certificate to enroll in studies to acquire one, emphasizing that education credentials are now mandatory for continued employment.
Kabir Concludes His Speech, Emphasizes Duty and Teaching Discipline
Kabir concluded his speech by stating that the education board will no longer tolerate teachers idling in the staff room chatting instead of being in their classrooms teaching.
He emphasized his deep knowledge and experience in the teaching profession, which began in 1979 when he obtained his NCE teaching certificate. He said there is nothing he hasn’t encountered in the teaching field.
The Executive Chairman of the Kano State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) personally visited each classroom where the training sessions were being held. He interacted with the new teachers, asking them assessment-style questions to test their understanding of the teaching techniques and principles they had learned. He was accompanied by the Education Secretaries of Gwale, Kumbotso, and Madobi local governments.
In his own remarks, Comrade Muntari Inuwa, Chairman of the 44 LGEA Education Secretaries in Kano State, expressed gratitude to God for blessing them with a dedicated leader like Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, whom he praised for restoring the glory of education in Kano.
He noted that from the onset of his administration, the Governor recruited over 5,000 teachers, and has now added another 4,315 new recruits currently undergoing specialized training. He described Governor Yusuf’s efforts as highly commendable and worthy of recognition.
