Ramadan Palliatives Deepen Government–Media Collaboration in Kano
Nigeria Union of Journalists members in Kano State have received Ramadan palliatives from the administration of Abba Kabir Yusuf, in a move described as a reinforcement of the longstanding partnership between government and the media.
The distribution ceremony, held at the NUJ Secretariat in Kano, brought together journalists from various categories and chapels across the state. The initiative, according to officials, forms part of a broader stakeholder support programme aimed at cushioning economic challenges while recognising the critical role of media practitioners in democratic governance.
Speakers at the event noted that Ramadan, beyond its spiritual importance, is a season that promotes compassion, solidarity and social responsibility. They said extending support to journalists during the holy month reflects the government’s acknowledgement of their contributions to public enlightenment and civic engagement.
The administration reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a professional and welfare-supported press corps, stressing that journalists remain central to shaping informed public discourse through accurate reporting, constructive scrutiny and accountability-driven coverage.
Officials also reiterated their resolve to uphold press freedom and encourage best practices within the profession, describing mutual respect and collaboration as essential to sustaining a vibrant media landscape in Kano State.
Observers say the gesture underscores the importance of synergy between public institutions and the media, particularly as the state advances its development agenda. They add that strengthening this partnership ultimately contributes to transparency, citizen participation and a more effective democratic process.
