Overloading and Reckless Driving Spark Concern After Truck Accident in Kano
Authorities have been urged to take decisive action to protect public safety following a road accident caused by excessive loading and reckless driving.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at about 6:00 p.m. in Dorayi, near the SWAT Base police office, when a goods-laden small-truck, known as (Kurƙura) overturned. The accident was reportedly caused by overloading beyond the vehicle’s capacity, combined with dangerous driving.
According to eyewitnesses, “the truck was heavily loaded with plastic food flask containers, far exceeding its limit” . The driver was said to be driving at high speed and without caution, disregarding traffic regulations. The vehicle overturned while the driver attempted to overtake other vehicles on the road.
Witnesses also reported that the truck ran over the driver’s assistant, who sustained injuries. However, no fatalities were recorded in the incident.
Residents of the Dorayi community have called on authorities to enforce regulations against overloading of commercial vehicles and reckless driving on public roads. They specifically highlighted the need for stricter monitoring along Sheikh Ja’afar Mahmud Adam Road (Panshekara Road) and other major roads in the city.
The community appealed for urgent measures to curb one-way traffic violations from Maimuna House Junction to Unguwar Bello Junction, citing frequent accidents in the area.
