KNSG Trains Online Journalists on Ethical Standards of News Reporting.

The Kano State Government has organized a special two-day training for online journalists on understanding the ethics and laws guiding journalistic practice. The training took place at the Manpower Development Institute, Dutse, Jigawa State.
The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Kano State, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, stated that the Kano State Ministry of Information, under his leadership, organized the special training for members of the Online Journalists Association to strengthen journalistic practice. The aim is to ensure that every journalist gains additional skills and a proper understanding of the ethics and laws of journalism through modern communication platforms (social media). Waiya cautioned online journalists to make proper use of the knowledge acquired in order to protect the integrity of journalism and avoid the spread of fake news.
Waiya explained that eight expert lecturers from Bayero University, Kano, were invited to deliver the intensive workshop, considering the participants’ role as information disseminators. The facilitators included:

1- Dr. Saminu Umar (PhD) – presented a paper titled “Online Journalists for Sustainable Development in Kano State.”
2- Dr. Hassan Alhaji Ya’u (PhD) – presented a paper titled “Global Best Practices in Digital Journalism.”
3- Professor Nura Ibrahim – presented a paper titled “Techniques of Language Use in Multimedia Journalism.”
4- Malam A. Yushe’u Shuaibu – presented a paper titled “Monetization Strategies and Grant Opportunities for Sustainable Online Journalism.”
5- Comrade Abbas Ibrahim – presented a paper titled “Specialized Security and Crime Reporting.”
6- Mr. Musikilu Agbaje Mowed – presented a paper titled “Understanding Digital and Investigative Journalism.”
7- Malam Auwal Mu’azu – presented a paper titled “Ethical and Legal Considerations in New Media Journalism.”
8- Dr. Aminu Shehu Ibrahim – presented a paper titled “Health Issues and Personal Safety for Online Journalists.”
The Chairman of the Kano Online Media Chapel, Comrade Abdulkadir Dangambo, delivered a vote of thanks and welcomed all the facilitators who contributed to the training. He also conveyed special appreciation to the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, for sponsoring the two-day special training for journalists.
