Kiru Bilingual Education Boarding School: A Welcome Development
The Kano State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda and Executive Secretary of UBEC Dr Aisha Garba, on Tuesday, 20 January 2026, commissioned the newly established Kiru Bilingual Education Boarding School in Kiru Local Government Area. The school is designed to promote effective teaching and learning of Arabic and English languages.
Dr. Makoda stated that the establishment of the school is aimed at developing multilingual education, which will significantly contribute to the advancement of education in Kano State.
The Executive Secretary of UBEC, Dr. Aisha Garba, I commissioned and handed over the IsDB-UBEC Bilingual Education Boarding School in Kiru Town, Kano State. This school is a clear statement of our commitment to providing access to quality education for every child.

The project demonstrates what is possible when the Federal Government works closely with UBEC, the Islamic Development Bank, and state governments. Bilingual education here will strengthen learning outcomes while preserving identity and opening wider opportunities.
This intervention aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by expanding access, improving quality, and reducing the number of out-of-school children. The boarding structure also provides stability, safety, and continuity for learners.
I commend the Islamic Development Bank for its sustained commitment to education development in Nigeria. I also acknowledge the leadership of UBEC and the Kano State Government for their effective coordination and successful delivery of this important project.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Farouk, commended the opportunity to establish the first Bilingual Education Boarding School in Kano State under the leadership of the Executive Governor of Kano State, His Excellency, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Baffa Ibrahim Garko, described the school as a welcome development across the 44 Local Government Areas of Kano State. He noted that the initiative would help young learners acquire major global languages, enabling them to understand the cultures of different societies around the world. Comrade Garko further emphasized that the NUT remains committed to supporting all meaningful initiatives that promote the development of education in Kano State and Nigeria at large.
The AOPSHON vice chairman Comrade Kabiru Garba Fagge Sa’id, the establishment of the Kiru Bilingual Education Boarding School is a significant step forward for the entire people of Kano State.
