Gwale Teachers Demand Credible NUT Leadership, Seek Suspension of Three Aspirants Ahead of 2026 Branch Elections

Teachers in Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State have called for credible and accountable leadership ahead of the forthcoming Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) branch elections scheduled for August 2026, insisting that individuals they describe as lacking integrity should not be allowed to contest.
Speaking on behalf of the concerned teachers, Comrade Auwalu Shuaibu Jae stated that the era of electing leaders without credibility must come to an end, emphasizing that the union requires trustworthy officials capable of promoting unity, fairness, and the welfare of teachers.
According to Jae, the current office holders seeking re-election no longer deserve the confidence of members, alleging that they have committed actions inconsistent with the provisions of the NUT Constitution. He specifically named Sani Rabiu Dandago and Dahiru Sani Hausawa, alleging that both had previously been involved in acts of misconduct and breach of trust.
Jae further alleged that the two individuals were implicated in irregularities relating to compensation payments for land belonging to some teachers. He claimed that forged documents and signatures were allegedly used during the compensation process after they were assigned the responsibility of identifying affected teachers for payment, following directives reportedly issued by the then Chairman of the NUT Gwale Branch, Comrade Aminu Salisu, in 2015.
He also accused the two of contributing to persistent unrest within the Gwale Local Government Education Authority (LGEA), alleging that they had repeatedly shown disrespect toward the leadership of the education authority, including the Education Secretary. According to him, despite these allegations, no disciplinary action had been taken against them because of the support they allegedly enjoy from influential individuals.
Jae further claimed that, in a recent incident, Dahiru Sani Hausawa allegedly encouraged some teachers to physically confront any official who treated them unfairly. He said the alleged statement was made shortly after a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Gwale LGEA under the leadership of the Executive Chairman of Gwale Local Government, Hon. Abubakar Mu’azu Mojo.
Some teachers in Gwale, who spoke on condition of anonymity, also expressed dissatisfaction with what they described as the leadership style of Sani Rabiu Dandago, alleging that he was intolerant of opposing views and unwilling to accept constructive criticism.
The teachers therefore appealed to the Chairman of Gwale Local Government, Hon. Abubakar Mu’azu Mojo, the Chairman of the NUT Kano State Wing, Comrade Baffa Ibrahim Garko, and the National President of the NUT, Comrade Titus Amba, to intervene by preventing Sani Rabiu Dandago, Dahiru Sani Hausawa, and Sani Adamu from contesting for any elective position in the forthcoming Gwale NUT elections.
They argued that such action would help restore peace, unity, and confidence within the union in Gwale Local Government, which is the home local government of Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf.
