Kano Assembly Rejects Proposed U.S. Sanctions Against Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso
The Kano State House of Assembly has expressed its opposition to a proposed bill reportedly being considered by the United States Congress, which allegedly lists Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso among individuals who may face sanctions, including visa restrictions and asset freezes in the United States.
The position was made known during a plenary session held on Tuesday under the leadership of the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore.
The motion was moved by Hon. Usman Tasiu, representing Kiru Local Government Area, who described Senator Kwankwaso as a courageous leader dedicated to public service. He stated that Kwankwaso’s leadership had made a significant positive impact on the lives of the people of Kano State.
According to him, the former governor played a vital role in promoting peace, advancing education, and providing critical infrastructure without discrimination based on religion or ethnicity. He further noted that Senator Kwankwaso has consistently worked toward national unity and has openly opposed all forms of violence and oppression.
Following deliberations, the Assembly unanimously adopted the motion and called on the Kano State Government to take appropriate and urgent steps in response to the proposed U.S. legislative action.
In a separate development during the same sitting, the House also approved motions relating to road construction projects in Tarauni, Madobi, and Garun Malam Local Government Areas.
The motions were sponsored by Kabiru Dahiru (Tarauni), Sulaiman Ishaq (Madobi), Deputy Speaker Muhammad Bello, and Zakariyya Alhassan (Kura/Garun Malam), who emphasized the need to strengthen infrastructure to ease transportation and boost economic activities in their respective constituencies.
