JACOD HAILS IBRAHIM WAIYA’S RECOGNITION AS BEST CRISIS COMMUNICATOR BY NIPR

The Joint Action Campaign for Development (JACOD) has welcomed the recognition of Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, as the recipient of the Best Crisis Communicator Award conferred by the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR).

JACOD described the honour as an important acknowledgement of the growing significance of strategic communication in public administration, noting that the quality of information released during sensitive periods can significantly influence public perception, social stability and citizens’ confidence in government institutions.

The organisation observed that communicating effectively in times of crisis demands more than the dissemination of information. It requires sound judgement, prompt response, empathy, factual accuracy and the capacity to engage diverse audiences without unnecessarily escalating tensions. In this regard, JACOD considers Waiya’s recognition a reflection of the professional demands associated with his role.

JACOD further applauded the NIPR for creating a platform through which excellence in public relations and crisis communication can be identified and celebrated. The organisation believes that professional recognition of this nature can encourage greater accountability and inspire practitioners to place public interest, credibility and ethical standards at the centre of their work.

The Joint Action Campaign for Development therefore joins the people of Kano State and the wider public in congratulating Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya on the distinction. JACOD wishes him continued success and urges him to regard the award as an additional responsibility to sustain constructive public engagement and contribute to a more informed and cohesive society.
