INEC Debunks Fake Governorship Candidate Lists for Six States, Warns Public Against Misinformation
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has debunked a fraudulent online publication purporting to be a special announcement containing lists of governorship candidates for six states across Nigeria.
In an urgent public notice, the Commission warned Nigerians to disregard the circulating lists, describing them as fake and clarifying that the publication did not originate from INEC.
The affected states are Zamfara, Gombe, Delta, Plateau, Yobe and Kano.
INEC emphasised that the purported announcement was unauthorised and should not be treated as an official communication from the electoral body.
The Commission urged members of the public to remain vigilant and avoid spreading unverified information, particularly on social media platforms.
It also reiterated the importance of relying on official INEC communication channels for accurate and authentic information regarding electoral matters.
The warning comes amid concerns over the circulation of misleading information online, which could confuse the public and undermine confidence in the electoral process.
INEC therefore advises Nigerians to verify electoral information through its official channels before sharing or acting on any publication claiming to originate from the Commission.
