Governor Yusuf Dissociates Himself from the Use of Political Thugs at Government House, Condemns Indiscipline.
The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has expressed strong displeasure and deep concern over the unruly and dangerous conduct of some youths who unlawfully gained access to the Kano State Government House during the ceremony marking his reception into the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Governor made his position known during a stakeholders’ meeting involving APC leaders and senior government officials, where he described the incident as disturbing, unacceptable, and capable of tarnishing Kano State’s long-standing reputation for peace, discipline, and order.
During the ceremony, hundreds of youths were reportedly seen within the premises of the Kano State Government House. Witnesses alleged that some of the youths, who were said to have accompanied Murtala Sule Garo to the venue, were carrying dangerous weapons, while others were openly abusing hard drugs and chanting “fire.” Some were also heard calling for the removal of the Deputy Governor in favour of Garo, popularly known as Kwamanda.
Members of the public have accused Murtala Sule Garo of routinely mobilising groups of youths who accompany him to political events and are allegedly involved in violent and unlawful activities. This development has continued to raise serious security concerns among residents of the state.
At the stakeholders’ meeting, a Special Adviser to the Governor, Muhammad Jamu, reportedly raised the issue, describing the situation as “dangerous and unacceptable.” He warned that allowing armed youths into political gatherings or government activities poses a grave threat to public safety and democratic order, stressing that such actions must not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Some political observers have also expressed concern that if Murtala Sule Garo is eventually appointed as Deputy Governor, it could reinforce growing suspicions that Governor Yusuf and Senator Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso are engaging in political manoeuvring within the APC. These concerns are further fueled by the fact that Garo is related by marriage to Senator Kwankwaso, with unconfirmed reports suggesting that the former Kano governor is working behind the scenes to secure the deputy governorship slot for him.
Governor Yusuf reiterated that his administration will not tolerate violence, intimidation, drug abuse, or political hooliganism in any form. He called on party leaders, security agencies, traditional rulers, parents, and community stakeholders to collectively rein in unruly elements. He also urged youths across Kano State to channel their energy into lawful and productive activities that promote peace, unity, and sustainable development.
It will be recalled that on Monday, Governor Yusuf formally defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), a development that has continued to generate widespread political reactions across Kano State and beyond.
