Federal High Court Declines Deputy Governor Gwarzo’s Bid to Halt Impeachment Process
The Federal High Court has refused an application for an interim injunction filed by the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, seeking to stop the impeachment process initiated by the Kano State House of Assembly.
In a ruling delivered on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, the court, presided over by Hon. Justice S.M. Shaibu, held that the applicant failed to meet the legal requirements necessary for the grant of the interim orders sought through a motion ex-parte.
Justice Shaibu ruled that the application did not sufficiently satisfy the conditions required for the court to grant the reliefs requested by the Deputy Governor. Consequently, the court declined to issue the interim injunction.
The court further directed the applicant to serve all respondents in the case with the relevant court processes to enable them to respond appropriately and present their arguments before the court.
Meanwhile, in a related development, the Kano State House of Assembly had earlier secured an interim order from the court dated March 11, 2026. The order restrains the Deputy Governor from taking any action that could hinder the Assembly from performing its constitutional duties under Section 188 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), which outlines the procedure for the impeachment of a deputy governor.
The development marks another significant step in the unfolding political and legal process surrounding the impeachment proceedings against the Deputy Governor in Kano State.
Further updates are expected as the case progresses in court.
