BIOGRAPHY OF AUWALU SHUAIBU JA’E (BABA COMRADE)
Auwalu Shuaibu Jae
Auwalu Shuaibu Jae, also known as Baba Comrade, is a Nigerian journalist, educator, media executive and teachers’ union activist from Kano State. He is the Managing Editor and Director-General of eMagazine Media Channel and has worked in education, journalism, teachers’ union activities and community advocacy.
Early life and education
Auwalu Shuaibu Jae was born on 1 December 1975 in Dorayi Karamar, Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State, Nigeria. He is the son of Shuaibu Abubakar Gumel and Talatuwa Shuaibu.
He attended Gama Tudu SPS from 1982 to 1988 and later attended Government College Birnin Kudu from 1988 to 1994.
From 1995 to 1999, he attended the Federal College of Education, Kano, where he studied Hausa and Social Studies under the Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE) programme.
He subsequently studied B.A.Ed. Hausa at Bayero University Kano, graduating from the programme in 2017. In 2024–2025, he obtained a Professional Diploma in Mass Communication from LEGAL.
Teaching career
Jae began his teaching career in the late 1990s and taught in both Islamic and conventional schools. Among the institutions where he taught was Dawakin Kudu Science College, where he worked in 1998–1999.
He later worked with the Kano State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) before moving to the Kano State Senior Secondary Schools Management Board (KSSSMB) in 2010.
He has continued to combine teaching with journalism and community activities.
Trade union activities
Jae has been involved in the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), particularly at the Gwale branch.

Jae began working in journalism in 2019. He has contributed voluntarily to Kanawa Radio, where he provided commentary on current affairs, particularly security and family-related social issues.
He later developed his presence in digital journalism through social media and eMagazine Media Channel, a media organisation under his leadership.
