A New Chapter for APC in Kano: Expectations, Unity, and the Road to 2027

By Najeeb Nasir Ibrahim

The emergence of Hon. Umar Haruna Doguwa as the new Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State marks a defining moment in the evolving political landscape of our dear state. His decision to resign as Commissioner for Water Resources before assuming this strategic party position signals readiness for a bigger responsibility that of rebuilding, reconciling, and repositioning the party ahead of 2027.

Leadership transitions are not merely ceremonial; they are moments of reflection and recalibration. For a party like the APC in Kano with its deep political history, grassroots strength, and internal complexities the composition of this new executive committee carries significant weight.

The Burden of Expectation

As Chairman, Umar Haruna Doguwa steps into office at a time when party unity must be prioritized above personal ambition. Kano politics is dynamic, sometimes intense, and often driven by strong personalities. The new leadership must therefore rise above factional tendencies and embrace inclusive engagement.

The inclusion of experienced figures such as Prof. Yusuf Muhammad Sabo Bichi as Secretary, Abdul Adamu Fagge SAN as Legal Adviser, and other seasoned stakeholders reflects a blend of intellectual depth, legal competence, and political experience. However, names alone do not guarantee success — synergy, fairness, and strategic direction do.

Rebuilding Internal Confidence

One of the major tasks before this executive committee is restoring confidence among party faithful. Recent political developments have tested loyalties and exposed internal grievances. The new leadership must demonstrate that the APC remains a home for all — regardless of previous alignments or differences.

Internal democracy, transparent communication, and equitable distribution of responsibilities will determine whether this new structure becomes a symbol of renewal or merely another reshuffling of positions.

Youth and Women: Beyond Symbolism

The appointment of youth and women leaders presents an opportunity to energize the party base. Kano has a vibrant youth population whose political awareness continues to grow. Engaging them meaningfully — not just ceremonially — will be crucial.

Similarly, women’s political participation must go beyond titles. Strategic mobilization, policy engagement, and inclusion in decision-making processes will strengthen the party’s grassroots appeal.

The 2027 Calculus

As 2027 approaches, political parties across Nigeria are already recalibrating. For APC in Kano, this new leadership is not just about administrative management; it is about electoral strategy. Coalition building, reconciliation with aggrieved stakeholders, and reconnecting with communities will determine future success.

Kano remains a key political battleground. Any serious party must understand its demographic realities, economic concerns, and governance expectations. The new chairman and his team must therefore combine political tact with grassroots empathy.

The Call for Collective Responsibility

Leadership alone cannot deliver victory. Party members at all levels ward, local government, and state must embrace a spirit of unity. Personal grudges, silent resistance, and internal sabotage only weaken collective ambition.

This is a moment for maturity. A moment to prioritize party interest over individual calculations. A moment to rebuild trust.

History will not judge this executive committee by the titles they hold, but by the stability they create, the unity they foster, and the victories they secure.

Kano APC stands at a crossroads. With disciplined leadership, strategic planning, and genuine reconciliation, this new chapter could redefine its political trajectory.

The journey begins now.
