Eye Trauma Awareness: National Eye Centre Kaduna Team Educates Students at GSS Unguwar Gano
A team of medical professionals from National Eye Centre Kaduna, led by Dr Najibu Abdullahi, on Monday arrived at GSS Unguwar Gano to conduct a two-day Eye Trauma Awareness Programme for students.
The outreach followed a formal invitation from the school principal, with the aim of educating learners on eye safety, common causes of eye injuries, basic preventive measures, and the importance of seeking prompt medical attention when eye trauma occurs.
Speaking during the sensitisation session, Dr Najibu Abdullahi emphasised that many cases of avoidable visual impairment among children result from delayed treatment and lack of awareness. He encouraged students to adopt safe practices during play and daily activities, avoid harmful objects around the eyes, and immediately report any eye injury to teachers or guardians.
The programme featured interactive lectures, practical demonstrations, and question-and-answer sessions, giving students the opportunity to engage directly with the doctors and learn simple steps to protect their eyesight.
School management expressed appreciation to the National Eye Centre Kaduna team for the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful. The principal noted that the awareness campaign will go a long way in promoting a culture of eye safety among students and strengthening school-community health partnerships.
The two-day programme is part of ongoing efforts by the National Eye Centre Kaduna to extend preventive eye care education to schools and communities across the country.
