KNSG Raises Minimum Pension from ₦5,000 to ₦20,000

The Kano State Government has increased the minimum monthly pension payable to retired workers from ₦5,000 to ₦20,000.

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Kano State Chapter, Shuaib Musa-Jibrin, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano.

Musa-Jibrin said the increase followed consultations between the state government and representatives of pensioners.

He noted that the Kano State Government had also made significant progress in settling outstanding allowances and other entitlements owed to pensioners.

According to him, out of the inherited pension-related debt estimated at about ₦48.6 billion, the government has so far paid approximately ₦32 billion, while efforts are ongoing to settle the remaining balance soon.

The NUP chairman further commended the government for improving the timely payment of monthly pensions, saying pensioners now receive their entitlements between the 23rd and 25th of every month.

Musa-Jibrin also applauded the state government’s decision to suspend certain deductions from pensioners’ monthly payments, describing the move as a relief that has boosted their confidence and helped ease the financial burden on retirees.
